The Marshman Half Triathlon
Past results: never I competed in a triathlon in Kent. And only 3 half iron distances so far on the board. 2017, The Gauntlet, Chantilly (France), 5h35mn. 2019, IronMan 70.3 Les Sables d’Olonne (France), 5h11mn. And 2021, Marlow Classic (UK), with the swim leg replaced by a run, 4h34mn. With only one goal in mind, a sub 5 hours.
I was meant to race in Windsor on June 13th. But the Covid restrictions forced the organisers to cancel it. Close to the date, my clubmates decided to enter a tri at Dorney lake. I hesitated. Too long. You snooze, you lose. The event sold out fast. On top of that, the organisers later announced many elite athletes would compete in the afternoon.
Earlier that week, I did receive the news that my JurasicMan triathlon was cancelled. So, I researched Find a Race and decided to replace my full ironman distance with two half. One on June the 13th. And one on August the 8th, a week before what was meant to be a – painful – weekend away on the Jurassic Coast.
The Marshman wasn’t sold out, the routes looked nice, and it was within reasonable driving distance from home. So, Kent, here I come …
- sub 5 hours
- swim under 39mn
- top 3 finish (AG)
