Swim

At Uni, I took swimming as an option but didn’t get more than an hour a week. I was quite good compared to one of my friends who nearly drown in the pool in front of me (I thought he was kidding).

Bike

I’ve started my first – real – job at Dell in Montpellier when I was 25. My first salary went into a new road bike, from a big French sports retailer, Decathlon. I was using it to commute to work. And occasionally¬†with friends to go around. I once went from Montpellier to Sete, but couldn’t climb on top of the Mount St Clair.

Run, ski, volleyball, rowing and rollerblading

After the sale of our chalet, I’ve always said I will go back skiing as soon as I would work (aka had money). And I did. I went for a week with a bunch of friends in Serre Chevalier. Despite telling them I hadn’t skied in years, we tackled a red slope, a black one followed by the Olympic one. I guess skiing is like cycling; you don’t forget.

I was still playing volleyball for my hometown as well as playing at Uni and in a regional league in the Loire Valley and Languedoc (south of France). But it stopped when I moved to Paris, in December 2010. At this point, I started rowing. It didn’t last long. The sessions were late on the Tuesdays and early on Saturdays. I rarely made the Saturday ones, and when I did, I usually had hangovers. Doing sports in Paris when your company offers open Champagne bar every Fridays, and a city with so many night clubs is pretty hard. Not to mention that my friend’s boat got hit by a barge and they all had to jump in the cold Seine river.

Having said that, I bought a pair of rollerblades. It became my first choice of transportation at the weekends and went to numerous organised hikes (they call it rando) in Paris. They have it twice a week, on Friday evening for advanced rollerbladers and on Sundays afternoon for anyone.
