Teen, fencing and practicing tennis a lot

Teen, fencing and practicing tennis a lot

At eleven, my parents moved to the Loire Valley in a county town where the outdoor swimming pool only opened in the summer, and the water is – badly – heated with solar energy. I had lessons to improve my freestyle, but because of my ongoing asthma, I found it difficult to breathe. Despite going on holidays to the South coast to my grandma’s flat with a communal swimming pool, the Mediterranean sea 15 minutes away, and spending more time in the water than out, I don’t think I’ve built confidence and technics in the water.

The tour de France is a BIG event. I’ve been following it every single year. At some point, I was so into it that I was recording on tape the ‘Stage of the day’ TV show to listen to it over and over.

For one of my teen birthday, I had a new bike which I hated (not sure if I hated more the bike or my mum at the time). It wasn’t a road bike but a touring bike. There was a favourite show on TV, Chips”, and with my best mate, we were pretending our bike were cops motorbikes. Also, I was, when not too lazy, using my bike for school commute but find it hard as it was quite hilly.

Run, ski, tennis and fencing

There was a school sports club on Wednesdays. You were doing a bunch of different activities. One day I went into a cross-country race. I was wearing a brand new yellow tracksuit, and it was rainy and muddy. I ended up with an asthma crisis and a trashed tracksuit. Never again!
I was going more and more into tennis, spending possibly more time playing than studying. I was dreaming of being the next Henri Leconte. And I wanted to join a tennis school. My parents disagreed. It was probably for the best.
We were continuing fencing, and my dad joined for a few years. It was very enjoyable. And being in a smaller county, as a result, I’ve managed to end on a podium in virtually every competition I was taking part.
Unfortunately, my grandma sold the chalet, and ski was no longer on the holidays’ list.

I was on continuous asthma treatment, and my crisis was becoming less frequents.
